You are considering a vintage Stevens Model 44 Falling-Block Rifle. It’s in good shape with light wear from usage, storage, and handling — the metalwork has been cleaned and polished so a new finish could be applied. There are no markings on this project rifle. The barrel is chambered for 22 Hornet ammunition and the bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling and no fouling or pitting. It does not come with front or rear sights and has not been drilled and tapped for a scope. The stock is not complete and will need a buttplate and finishing with screws to be complete. The metalwork is fitted nicely, however, and an amateur at this point could put this rifle back together. It does not have a firing pin or retaining screw/pin for the firing pin. Otherwise though, the falling block functions as it should, the hammer passes a light thumb push, and the extractor works flawlessly.
